Geocachers Exploring Oregon and Salem Area Geocaching Association
Invite you to Geocaching 101
Are you new to geocaching? Or have you been caching for a little while, but want to pick up some additional tips? Maybe you're an experienced geocacher who is willing to share your knowledge and team up with some beginners to lend a hand? Join GEO and SAGA for Geocaching 101.
We'll spend some time indoors going over the basics and then get out on the library grounds to test your newly acquired skills. All are welcome. We hope to have plenty of beginners looking to learn more. But we also hope to have some experienced cachers willing to team up with some new folks to help them around the beginner's course we're setting up at the library. We'd also appreciate some experienced cachers bringing GPS units that new folks can borrow out on the course if they don't have one of their own.
Our agenda is: Brief history of geocaching Explanation of cache types and a few usefule terms Introduction to GPS and satellite technology The cache page at geocaching.com The beginner's geocaching course Geocaching account and logging your caches
Bring your GPS units. And if you have one, bring your laptop; we'll have wireless at the library. It might also help if folks can bring some extension cords and power strips.
Regular cachers: Spread the work amongst your friends, family, and coworkers. Let us do the work of creating new caching friends for you.

Saturday 18 July 2009 at 09:45 AM - Champoeg 2009 Park Cleanup Event
Posted by: 3MudDogs Category: Local Event
When: Saturday 18 July 2009 at 09:45 AM Ends: Saturday 18 July 2009 at 12:00 PM
Location: Champoeg State Park
PLEASE join us for our 8th year of celebrating Geocaching, geocachers, and the Great State of Oregon!
As a thank you to Oregon State Parks, we will be participating in a park service project from about 10am to Noon on both Friday, July 17th, and Saturday, July 18th. The above coordinates are for the spot to meet in front of the RV building. There are waypoints for three areas to park included below. There is a small fee per vehicle to enter the park for the day.
Please meet at the RV building at 9:45am. There is some paper work that needs to be done that the Park requires for volunteers (insurance and children need a permission form signed). It would be good to get that over with before we head to the work area at 10am.
The actual project is pulling out English Ivy. It's tough work, but it's very rewarding. They save some areas just for geocachers, because they know that we're not afraid of a little slope, and that rummaging around in the ivy is what we do.
Please bring good work gloves, wear a long sleeved shirt and long pants and good shoes (no sandals). We will provide cold water for drinking.
We will also have special goodies for cachers that participate in the project, so PLEASE sign up! We would like to break the record for the largest volunteer group the park has ever had.. Currently that record is about 120 people... If you care about our parks, then PLEASE join us for the project!
Keep an eye on this page as the event gets closer. We are working with the park to pinpoint an exact location for the project.
Want to stay for the whole weekend? Good! There are still some campsites available! For more info, check out the forums on www.champoeg.com.
